DGIST (President Kunwoo Lee) announced that a preview exhibition of “Portrait of a Beauty,” in which AI technology developed by its research team was incorporated in collaboration with the Daegu Kansong Art Museum (Director Inkeon Chun), will be held from February 14 (Saturday), 2026, onward.

This preview exhibition marks the first collaboration between DGIST and the museum after they signed the MOU last January. This exhibition is highly significant, as it suggests a practical cooperation model by directly incorporating into art and cultural content the cutting-edge AI technology of DGIST, a nationally representative research university, in line with Daegu City’s vision to become a “Global AX Leading City.”

The notable and core technology of this exhibition is the latest generative AI model developed by the research team led by Prof. Sunghoon Im of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, DGIST (the team includes PhD candidates Donghyun Kim, Jongmin Kim, Kyungmin Lee, Jihun Park, and Minwoo Choi, and Master’s candidate Seungjun Hyun). In particular, the core technology of this model was selected as a Highlight at “CVPR 2025” and for an Oral Presentation at “AAAI 2026,” both highly prestigious academic conferences on AI, and it received international recognition for its technical excellence. The research team applied this technology to Hyewŏn Sin Yunbok’s national treasure masterpiece, “Portrait of a Beauty,” to create a digital art piece reinterpreted in the styles of Western art masters, such as Rembrandt, Claude Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh.

Additionally, there are spaces at the exhibition for visitors to personally experience DGIST’s technology. In the so-called experience zone, visitors’ figures can be captured on the spot and transformed into an art piece in the style of various masters. The exhibition is designed to help visitors better understand and enjoy AI technology. For instance, various Western masterpieces that have been converted into Sin Yunbok’s style, as well as a video of “Portrait of a Beauty” brought to life via AI technology, will be revealed.

DGIST President Kunwoo Lee stated, “This exhibition holds significance beyond the interchange between two organizations representing traditional culture and scientific technology, respectively. It will serve as an opportunity for the fusion of ‘Portrait of a Beauty,’ which is the essence of Korean culture, and advanced AI technology, to bring special synergy effects.”

Director of the Daegu Kansong Art Museum, Inkeon Chun, stated, “This exhibition can be interpreted as an interesting trial in which the beauty of Korean cultural heritage was reinterpreted using AI technology. We hope this collaboration, where tradition meets the future to present new creativity, enables visitors to experience and find the wonderful possibilities created by the fusion of technology and cultural arts.”

This exhibition will be held from February 14 (Saturday) to May 31 (Sunday), 2026, in Exhibition Hall 3 at the Daegu Kansong Art Museum. The opening of a permanent exhibition hall, in which visitors can appreciate “Portrait of a Beauty,” is scheduled for July 2026.
