Saudi Arabia has joined the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, it was announced on Saturday, marking a further step in the Kingdom’s efforts to shape global artificial intelligence governance.

The GPAI is a multilateral initiative hosted by the OECD and launched by the G7.

The Kingdom’s accession is being led through the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s growing role in the development, regulation and ethical use of advanced technologies, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The move is backed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and aligns with the objectives of Vision 2030, which seeks to localize advanced technologies and increase the digital economy’s contribution to gross domestic product.

By joining GPAI, which brings together more than 40 countries, Saudi Arabia will contribute to shaping international AI standards, supporting responsible and human-centric AI development, and strengthening global cooperation in the sector, the SPA said.

Membership is also expected to enhance the Kingdom’s attractiveness to high-quality global investment, supported by its expanding regulatory framework and growing AI and data ecosystem, it added.
