A survey has found that 41.8% of job-seekers in Japan have used generative artificial intelligence in their activities.

The survey, carried out by Tokyo-based job advertisement company Aidem between December and January, targeted individuals who applied for regular, part-time or temporary positions through its website. A total of 371 people responded.

The proportion of respondents who have used generative AI to create or revise resumes came to 22.6%, while 21.3% used it to search for and compare job information and 19.1% to draft or refine statements on self-promotion or motivations for applying.

The survey also asked about the frequency of AI use in daily life.

Among respondents in their 30s or younger, 17.4% said they use it almost every day. Including those who use AI twice or three times a week or several times a month, the proportion of AI users in the age group stood at 54.7%.

Meanwhile, more than half of respondents age 40 or older said they rarely use or have never used AI or said they do not know.

“With the spread of generative AI, the number of people using it for job-hunting activities may be increasing,” an Aidem official said. “Generative AI is just a tool to organize your thoughts, so you need to conduct a final review.”
