Chinese smartphone giant Honor wowed the viewers at the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona as it unveiled its very first humanoid robot.
With no particular name assigned to it, the robot walked on to the stage and danced with a group of performers, drawing admiration and applause from the crowd.
Honor’s robots will primarily be designed for three key roles: helping shoppers, inspecting workplaces, and providing supportive companionship. There have been no updates released regarding the machine’s pricing or specifications as of now.
The Chinese firm is banking on its consumer experience with mobile handset users to understand user behavior and build humanoids for specific use cases.
A commendable entry
The Honor humanoid robot took to the stage at the MWC 2026 and left no stone unturned in leaving a positive first impression on the crowd. The machine performed a routine of dance moves along with human dancers, grooving to the tune of popular Imagine Dragons soundtrack Believer.
The Honor Robot Phone, placed on the right side of the stage, added to the excitement, with its motorized gimbal camera arm moving in sync with the soundtrack.
Post the performance, the humanoid shook hands with Honor CEO James Li, and also performed a clean backflip that landed flawlessly, leaving the viewers amazed, meeting a ripple of applause across the room.
Dissecting the Alpha Plan
With the introduction of several products across different categories, Honor plans to push itself as a AI+robotics ecosystem for the future, envisioning an AI hardware civilization where devices, think, move, interact, and work together.
The three pillars of the Alpha Plan involve an Alpha Phone, which is the Robot Phone that was unveiled along with the humanoid. It can has AI embedded for physical movement, multimodal perception, and embodied interaction.
The second pillar is an Alpha Store, an AI ecosystem platform where AI assistants, connected devices, and smart experiences can connect and interact as a single system.
The deep tech layer forms the third pillar, focusing on advanced battery tech, new hardware materials, robotics, and future device architectures. Honor has referred to this as silicon-carbon civilization.
A vision for the future
“With Human-centric as our lighthouse, we navigate the growth of AI through the two beams of IQ and EQ, bringing three forms of intelligence together,” said James Li.
“We are exploring the new paradigm of AI devices with Alpha Phone; hosting the new paradigm of AI ecosystem with Alpha Store; and building the new paradigm of a silicon-carbon civilization with Alpha Lab. With three waves of the Alpha Plan, we now have all the components in place and we are driving this journey at full warp speed,” he added.
In a nutshell, the Shenzhen-based firm is trying to turn AI from software into physical, everyday technology. It is steadily moving beyond phones, tablets, and laptops to embed AI in devices, robots, and intelligent ecosystems.
