Meta Reportedly Delays ‘Avocado’ AI Model, Weighs Gemini Use

Meta has delayed the rollout of an AI model code-named Avocado from March to at least May, citing three people familiar with the matter.

The report could not be independently verified. Avocado has lagged behind rivals on performance, and Meta’s AI leaders discussed temporarily licensing Google’s Gemini to power the company’s AI products, although no decisions have been reached.

In January, Meta outlined capital spending plans of US$115 billion to US$135 billion for the year to expand its AI efforts and build its own chips.

The delay follows earlier coverage that linked Avocado to a planned first-quarter launch.
