US Withdraws Draft Rule on Nvidia, AMD AI Chip Exports

The US Commerce Department withdrew a draft rule that would have restricted exports of AI chips without US approval, an Office of Management and Budget posting said.

The proposal would have required case-by-case reviews of AI chip exports from Nvidia and AMD.

Trump administration official said the proposal was only preliminary draft.

The Commerce Department said it would not return to the prior administration’s AI chip export framework.
