Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-duk handed an appointment certificate to President Park Chang-geun of the Korea National Infrastructure Safety Management Agency at the Government Complex Sejong in Eojin-dong, Sejong City, on the afternoon of the 30th.
Minister Kim emphasized to President Park, “As protecting the lives and safety of the people is the greatest raison d’être of the nation, we ask that you do your utmost in safety management of construction sites and infrastructure to prevent accidents.”
Minister Kim noted that last year saw many regrettable accidents, including the collapse of a bridge under construction and ground subsidence, and added, “This year, we must become sentinels safeguarding construction sites and infrastructure across the nation to prevent such accidents from recurring. The role of the Korea National Infrastructure Safety Management Agency is crucial for the people’s safe daily lives. We urge you to focus all capabilities on ensuring safety nationwide.”
Minister Kim also stressed the need to transition from manpower-focused inspections to advanced technologies. He stated, “Innovation in work methods is necessary to supplement the limitations of visual inspections and proactively identify risk factors by introducing advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robots, thereby preventing accidents.”
Additionally, regarding the Green Remodeling Support Project under the agency’s responsibilities, Minister Kim ordered, “Efforts toward carbon neutrality in the climate crisis era are a duty for future generations, making this a critical task. Since existing support methods have limitations, please develop effective promotional strategies to drive changes in public awareness.”
