Members of the British Parliament have voiced sharp criticism against the American technology firm Palantir following a provocative social media manifesto advocating for US military dominance and autonomous weaponry, as reported by The Guardian.

The tech company released a 22-point post on X over the weekend that extolled the necessity of American power and suggested that some global cultures remain regressive. This public stance has led UK lawmakers to question the appropriateness of the firm holding significant government contracts.

“Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive,” wrote Palantir, an organization led by chief executive Alex Karp.

The manifesto further suggested that the United States should reinstate a military draft to ensure democratic societies possess the necessary hard power to prevail. It also addressed the inevitable rise of artificial intelligence in warfare.

“The question is not whether A.I. weapons will be built; it is who will build them and for what purpose. Our adversaries will not pause to indulge in theatrical debates about the merits of developing technologies with critical military and national security applications. They will proceed,” wrote Palantir.

The statements have caused alarm among British officials regarding the company’s extensive portfolio in the United Kingdom. Palantir currently manages over £500 million in British contracts, including a £330 million deal with the NHS and various agreements with the Ministry of Defence and police forces.

Martin Wrigley, a Liberal Democrat MP on the commons science and technology select committee, characterized the post as a disturbing display of arrogance.

“Palantir’s manifesto, which embraces AI state surveillance of citizens along with national service in the USA, is either a parody of a RoboCop film, or a disturbing narcissistic rant from an arrogant organisation,” said Wrigley.

He argued that the corporate culture displayed in the manifesto is incompatible with handling sensitive citizen data.

“Either way it shows that the company’s ethos is entirely unsuited to working on UK government projects involving citizens’ most sensitive private data,” Wrigley added.

Legislative concerns also extend to the company’s influence over policy and investment. Rachael Maskell, a Labour MP and former NHS worker, suggested the firm is attempting to position itself at the center of a technological defense revolution.
