Anthropic Seeks Appeals Court Stay of Pentagon Risk Label

Anthropic asked the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to stay a Pentagon designation that labels it a supply-chain risk while it seeks judicial review.

In a court filing, the company said the designation could cost it billions of dollars in lost revenue.

Pete Hegseth, defense secretary, barred the Pentagon and its contractors from using Anthropic’s AI products amid a dispute over technology guardrails for military use.

Anthropic filed a separate lawsuit in federal court in California to challenge what it called a Pentagon “blacklisting.”

The company’s court filing said the designation would cause “irreparable harm” and that more than 100 enterprise customers had contacted the firm about the status.

Lawyers for Anthropic wrote the government actions risked “hundreds of millions or even multiple billions of dollars” in lost 2026 revenue.
