Google Maps is rolling out a Gemini-powered conversational feature called “Ask Maps,” along with an updated “Immersive Navigation” that offers 3D views, detailed road information, natural voice guidance, and more.
Ask Maps offers conversational queries on Android and iOS in the US and India, and Immersive Navigation brings 3D views and improved voice guidance to Maps.
Ask Maps can answer complex real-world questions and help plan routes. It also personalizes replies using saved places and past searches.
Immersive Navigation shows nearby buildings, overpasses, and terrain, and highlights lanes, crosswalks, traffic lights, and stop signs.
Maps will add smart zooms, transparent buildings, and more natural voice guidance, and will explain trade-offs for alternate routes using Maps and Waze data, Google said.
