Google President: US Needs More Energy for AI Data Centers

Google President and chief investment officer Ruth Porat said the US may not be scaling electricity fast enough to support the rise of AI, as the company scales its AI data centers.

Speaking at the CERAWeek conference in Houston, Porat said Google is “concerned” the country is not moving “full throttle” on energy.

Big Tech is pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into its expansion of energy-intensive server warehouses, which are used to train and roll out AI.

The effort, which is concentrated in the US, ‌has been met with challenges, including long waits to connect to grids and shortages of supplies of critical power plant components like gas turbines.
