Three anonymous plaintiffs filed a proposed class action in US federal court against X.AI Corp and X.AI LLC, the AI startup founded by Elon Musk and known as xAI.
The lawsuit alleges its Grok image models generated sexual images of identifiable minors.
The suit, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, seeks class status for anyone whose real images of them as minors were altered into sexual content by Grok.
The plaintiffs allege xAI failed to adopt safety measures used by other image model makers to prevent its models from producing pornography depicting real people and minors.
They also say public promotion of Grok’s ability to sexualize real people increased the risk of misuse.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs argue that third-party use of Grok still relies on xAI’s code and servers.
They say the company should therefore be held responsible.
