OpenAI will merge its web browser, ChatGPT app, and Codex coding app into a single desktop application, the firm confirmed to CNBC.
A company spokesperson said the change aims to streamline the user experience and reduce fragmentation.
Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, will oversee the changes. OpenAI President Greg Brockman will be assisting Simo.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the plan.
Simo was hired by OpenAI in May and is the former Instacart CEO, while she told staff that the company is “orienting aggressively” toward high-productivity use cases.
The consolidation follows the 2022 launch of ChatGPT and comes as OpenAI expands its product lineup and gears up for a potential IPO, which could happen as soon as this year.
