The US Commerce Department withdrew a draft rule that would have restricted exports of AI chips without US approval, an Office of Management and Budget posting said.
The proposal would have required case-by-case reviews of AI chip exports from Nvidia and AMD.
A Trump administration official said the proposal was only a preliminary draft.
The Commerce Department said it would not return to the prior administration’s AI chip export framework.
