Tech hub Shenzhen’s first pilot production line for humanoid robots has commenced operations, marking a key step in advancing the manufacturing of robots from prototypes to scaled production.
The production line, which launched on Sunday, is located in Longhua district. Designed to manufacture Leju Robotics’ Roban 2 research and education robot, it can assemble a unit in two hours and produce 500 to 1,000 robots annually.
After passing strict certification, the product will move into mass production at a factory in Foshan. Co-built by Leju Robotics and a high-end intelligent equipment manufacturing company, the factory features China’s first automated production line with an annual capacity of over 10,000 humanoid robots — rolling out one unit every 30 minutes.
The production line covers 24 precision assembly processes. Before shipment, each robot must complete 77 comprehensive inspections and 41 scenario-based tests that simulate operating conditions.
Currently, the humanoid robotics industry faces widespread challenges in transitioning from prototype development to batch production — in particular, high manufacturing costs, inconsistent quality, and unstable production processes.
The pilot testing phase helps verify the stability and reliability of the production process and establishes standardized operating procedures, accelerating the transition to mass production, said Cao Yu, assistant vice-president of Leju Robotics.
He added that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has now largely established a complete manufacturing loop for humanoid robot production. Leju’s flagship humanoid robot, KuaFu, has achieved a localization rate of over 95 percent for its entire system.
The nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) first included embodied intelligence in the development priorities of future industries, and called for the development of concept-validation and pilot-verification platforms.
Guangdong and Shenzhen have also issued policies to support humanoid robot pilot platforms and the construction of smart factories.
According to a recent report by tech consulting firm TrendForce, the global humanoid robotics industry will enter a critical phase of commercialization in the second half of 2026. This year, China’s humanoid robot market production is expected to grow by as much as 94 percent compared to last year.
