Samsung Electronics’ market capitalization exceeded 1.5 trillion dollars (approximately 2,274 trillion Korean won) during trading hours on the 2nd, surpassing Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, and recording its first-ever 10th place in global market capitalization.
According to the global market capitalization tracking site CompaniesMarketCap.com, Samsung Electronics’ market cap reached 1.526 trillion dollars on that day, surpassing Meta (1.524 trillion dollars) and rising one step from 11th to 10th place. The gap with Tesla, which is in 9th place (1.561 trillion dollars), is a mere 35 billion dollars.
The top global market cap company is U.S.-based Nvidia, valued at 5.434 trillion dollars. Following are Alphabet (4.513 trillion dollars), Apple (4.498 trillion dollars), Microsoft (3.42 trillion dollars), and Amazon (2.81 trillion dollars). Taiwan’s semiconductor company TSMC ranks 6th with 2.259 trillion dollars, followed by Broadcom (2.177 trillion dollars) and Saudi Arabia’s Aramco (1.763 trillion dollars) in 7th and 8th places, respectively.
SK Hynix, whose stock price fell on that day, dropped one step from its previous 12th place to 13th.
The market caps of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have surged explosively this year. This is due to a significant increase in their profits, driven by a sharp rise in demand for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors and high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
The market caps of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix exceeded 1 trillion dollars for the first time this year. In Asia, only three companies—Taiwan’s TSMC, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix—have market caps surpassing 1 trillion dollars.
