The UK Department for Education and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology have invited edtech and AI companies to help develop safe AI tutoring tools for disadvantaged pupils. The initiative aims to expand access to personalised learning support.
According to the UK Government, the AI based tools will be co created with teachers to ensure they are effective, safe and aligned with classroom learning. The approach focuses on maintaining educational quality while introducing new technology.
The proposed systems are designed to provide one to one style support, adapting to individual pupil needs and helping identify areas for improvement. This could help address inequalities in access to private tutoring.
The UK Government expects the tools to be tested and rolled out to schools by 2027, supporting disadvantaged pupils and contributing to efforts to close the attainment gap in the UK.
